Florida State University (FSU) has a rich history of producing talented baseball players who have gone on to achieve great success at both the collegiate and professional levels. He went on to have an illustrious professional career, earning an All-Star selection and a World Series championship.
Moving on, we have Buster Posey, who played for FSU from 2006 to 2008. Posey was an incredibly skilled catcher and helped lead the Seminoles to the College World Series in 2008. He won the Johnny Bench Award, given to the best catcher in college baseball, and was named the ACC Player of the Year. Posey was later selected by the San Francisco Giants in the first round of the MLB draft and quickly became one of the best catchers in the game. Continuing our player spotlight, we come to Tyler Holt, who played for FSU from 2008 to 2010. Holt was known for his exceptional speed and defensive skills, earning him a reputation as one of the best outfielders in college baseball. He was a three-time All-American and holds the record for most career walks in FSU history. Holt went on to have a brief but successful professional career, playing for the Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds.
Next up is D.J. Stewart, who played for FSU from 2013 to 2015. Stewart was a powerful outfielder and a force to be reckoned with at the plate. He was named the ACC Player of the Year and won the Dick Howser Trophy, awarded to college baseball’s top player. Stewart was selected in the first round of the MLB draft by the Baltimore Orioles, where he continues to make a strong impact as part of their organization.
Last but certainly not least, we have Drew Mendoza, who played for FSU from 2017 to 2019. Mendoza was a standout third baseman known for his powerful hitting and excellent defensive skills. He was a two-time All-American and played a significant role in leading FSU to the College World Series in 2019. Mendoza was selected by the Washington Nationals in the third round of the MLB draft.
